

Our Conductor
Mrs. Sheily Bell has started a new program at Dutchtown High School and has been
teaching for 31 years. She has a B.M.E. and a Master +30 from Louisiana State
University. Ms. Bell's bands have consistently received superior ratings at both the
district and the state levels, and her students are continually selected to perform in
District, State, Tri-State, Regional, All South and National Honor Bands. Of her seniors
going to college, over 95% receive band scholarships and in some cases full tuition
scholarships. She has been honored by band directors around the state with the
Louisiana Bandmaster of the year Award, and received the Phi Beta Mu Bandmaster of
the year award.
Her previous program, the East Ascension High Band, was selected to perform at the
Loyola Invitational Band Festival and was critiques and conducted by Colonel John
Bourgeois, retired band director of "The President's Own" Marine Band in
WashingtonD.C. They were selected to perform at the ARK-LA-TEX band conference
in Ruston, LA and to represent Louisiana at the National Festival of the States in
Washington D.C. The EAHS band recently participated in the National Adjudicator
Invitational Festival in Chattanooga, TN, where they received the National
Championship Award, the Best Woodwind Section, and the Best Soloist Awards.
Mrs. Bell is a member of M.E.N.C, L.M.E.A. (Past State Public Relations Chairman),
National Bandmaster Association (past state chair), L.B.A., District IV Honor Band
Association (past treasurer), Phi Beta Mu (past president) and Louisiana Educator
Association. She is the Conductor of the Baton Rouge Community Band, is a member of
the Baton Rouge Jazz Ensemble and a member of the St. John Church Choir. She is
constantly in demand to adjudicate band festivals, direct honor bands and give clinics
throughout the stat of Louisiana and parts of Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and
Texas.
